The Board of Trustees for Sno-Isle Libraries voted unanimously in December 2017 to ask the voters to consider restoring 9 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value to the library district's operations levy in 2019. Library trustees determined that available service levels could be supported through 2018 with available funding. Either additional funding or budget cuts would be needed in 2019. Therefore an election decision would be needed in 2018.
An April special election was scheduled as the earliest available election after the Board decision to place the request before voters. This date was based on county elections office deadlines.
Annual budget development begins in early summer and leads to review, discussion and final adoption by the Board of Trustees in the fall. The Board felt that voter approval or rejection of the library levy increase earlier in the year would provide the library district with adequate time to prepare an appropriately-sized 2019 budget during the spring and summer of 2018. An April special election was deemed the best choice to accomplish 2019 budget planning.
