Library officials are executing the 2016-25 Capital Facilities Plan. The plan identified two underserved areas within the library district, the area around Mariner High School and the Lakewood-Smokey Point area. Residents in these areas have been paying property taxes for library services and not receiving the same value as other library-district residents. The libraries opened in these two areas are called “demonstration libraries.” They are in leased commercial spaces and intended to ascertain the kind and level of service wanted by area residents. We are committed to serving those residents, but before looking to build a new library, this process helps gain more information and insight for the library district and area residents.
